BlueSG, Singapore’s leading electric car-sharing provider, announced it will wind down its current operations on August 8, 2025, at 11:59 PM, to facilitate a comprehensive platform upgrade. The company, which launched in 2017 as part of the Land Transport Authority’s national-level electric vehicle car-sharing initiative, plans to unveil a new and enhanced service in 2026. This strategic pause aims to introduce a refreshed fleet, an expanded network of charging points, and enhanced technology, addressing the evolving needs of shared mobility in the city-state.

Currently operating a fleet of nearly 1,000 electric vehicles and managing over 1,500 charging points across the island, BlueSG’s decision reflects a proactive approach to market demands. Keith Kee, Chief Executive of BlueSG, stated, “As the landscape evolved and we observed the potential scale of car-sharing users, it became clear that the current infrastructure of BlueSG needs to be upgraded fast to meet the demands of tomorrow.” He emphasized the necessity of this temporary cessation to minimize distractions and focus resources on delivering a completely new platform, built from the ground up based on lessons learned from its pioneering journey.

The upgrade is poised to significantly enhance user experience and operational efficiency, positioning BlueSG to cater to a larger and more demanding user base. Existing users have been assured of exclusive privileges upon the launch of the new service, with further details regarding timelines, features, and launch plans to be disclosed in the coming months. The Consumers Association of Singapore (Case) has collaborated with BlueSG to establish a dedicated channel for addressing customer inquiries related to refunds and outstanding bills, ensuring a smooth transition for current users.

This move by BlueSG underscores a broader trend in the electric vehicle and shared mobility sectors, where initial deployments are giving way to more sophisticated, data-driven platforms designed for long-term scalability and sustainability. The investment in a new infrastructure highlights the company's commitment to remaining a key player in Singapore's green transport ecosystem and adapting to the rapid advancements in EV technology and consumer expectations.
