Chinese EV manufacturer BYD has unveiled its latest innovation, the B13.b electric bus, at the UITP Summit in Hamburg, setting a new benchmark for intercity travel with an unprecedented 700-kilometer range on a single charge. This achievement, validated under the Standardized On-Road Test (SORT) cycle, is powered by BYD's proprietary lithium iron phosphate (LFP) Blade Battery, which delivers a maximum capacity of 560kWh while accommodating up to 78 passengers (49 seated and 29 standing).

The B13.b is designed for versatility, with a top speed of 100 km/h, making it suitable for both urban and intercity routes. Its advanced features include dual 150kW wheel hub hairpin motors for efficient propulsion and an integrated thermal management system that optimizes performance by combining drivetrain cooling, battery cooling, and waste heat recovery. The bus also supports flexible charging options, including single or dual 192kW charging guns and a 500kW overhead pantograph for rapid turnarounds.

BYD also showcased the B12.b, the first electric bus built on its next-generation eBus platform featuring the Blade Battery Chassis. Both models utilize BYD's cutting-edge cell-to-chassis (CTC) technology, which integrates the battery directly into the vehicle's framework. This innovation reduces weight, enhances energy efficiency, improves safety, and ensures superior ride comfort and handling.

A BYD spokesperson emphasized the company's decade-long leadership in electric bus innovation, dating back to its first commercial fleet deployment in 2011. As of 2025, BYD has secured over 6,500 eBus orders across 26 European countries, serving more than 160 cities. Collectively, BYD eBus models have driven over 360 million miles in Europe, reducing CO₂ emissions by more than 630,000 tonnes—a significant contribution to Europe's carbon neutrality goals.
