A pivotal feature is its dual-fuel engine, which operates on liquefied natural gas (LNG) and fuel oil, complemented by smart loading software designed to optimize energy efficiency. This configuration enables the vessel to achieve approximately 20 percent energy savings and over 24 percent reduction in carbon emissions compared to conventional ships. Each round-trip voyage between China and Europe is reported to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 2,100 tons, with its lifecycle carbon intensity estimated to be 35 percent lower than traditional vessels.

The vessel's onboard power generation is significantly bolstered by the largest shipborne photovoltaic (PV) system of its kind, delivering a peak power output of 302.8 kilowatts. This system incorporates over 500 high-efficiency Sea-Shield solar modules from global manufacturer Longi, installed across the upper decks. These modules are engineered to produce around 410,000 kWh of electricity annually, contributing to an estimated reduction of 111 tons in fuel consumption and nearly 346 tons in CO2 emissions—equivalent to the carbon sequestration of almost 38,000 trees.

Longi's Sea-Shield modules are specifically designed to withstand harsh maritime conditions, featuring corrosion-resistant materials, reinforced seals, and specialized junction boxes to ensure stable and reliable energy production despite high humidity, salt spray, and strong vibrations. The clean electricity generated powers the ship’s essential lighting, communication, and auxiliary systems throughout its voyages. Furthermore, the Yuanhai Kou integrates advanced safety technologies, including continuous monitoring of vehicle locations and early fire hazard warnings, which are critical for the secure overseas transport of sensitive cargo like NEVs.
