Farizon Establishes Guangzhou Subsidiary, Accelerating South China's Green Commercial Vehicle Transition with Methanol-Hydrogen and Electric Fleets
Key Insights
Geely's commercial vehicle arm, Farizon, officially inaugurated its Guangzhou subsidiary on July 4, 2025, marking a strategic expansion into South China.
The new subsidiary will spearhead the full electrification of public sector fleets in Guangzhou, including buses, logistics, and sanitation vehicles, through a partnership with the Baiyun District Government.
Farizon's strategy aligns with Guangzhou's dual focus on battery electric and hydrogen-powered vehicles, leveraging its "methanol-hydrogen + electric" technologies for diverse commercial applications.
The initiative aims to build a comprehensive local methanol-hydrogen ecosystem, encompassing green methanol production and refueling infrastructure, promoting sustainable logistics.
Farizon, Geely's commercial vehicle division, has officially launched its Guangzhou subsidiary on July 4, 2025, concurrently delivering its initial vehicle batch. This strategic move positions Farizon to significantly expand its footprint in South China's burgeoning new energy commercial vehicle market. The inauguration follows a pivotal August 2024 agreement with the Baiyun District Government, targeting the comprehensive electrification of public sector fleets across the region.
The establishment of Guangzhou Farizon represents a crucial step in this partnership, which encompasses a wide array of vehicles, including buses, taxis, sanitation vehicles, postal trucks, urban logistics vehicles, and heavy-duty trucks for specialized applications. During the launch event, Guangzhou Farizon also formalized collaborations with three prominent logistics firms, underscoring a collective commitment to advancing green logistics solutions.
Guangzhou has proactively cultivated an environment conducive to sustainable transportation, aspiring to become a "green and smart transportation demonstration city." The city has implemented robust policies to accelerate the adoption of new energy commercial vehicles within its logistics and public transit sectors. Concurrently, Guangzhou is strategically developing a hydrogen energy industrial chain, aligning with its broader clean energy objectives.
This dual emphasis on battery electric and hydrogen-powered vehicles in Guangzhou perfectly complements Farizon's core technological strategy. Farizon champions a "methanol-hydrogen + electric" approach, recognizing methanol as a highly efficient hydrogen carrier. Notably, one cubic meter of methanol contains 148.3 kg of hydrogen, significantly more than the 70 kg found in an equivalent volume of liquid hydrogen, making it particularly advantageous for transportation.
Leveraging these advanced technologies and supportive local policies, Guangzhou Farizon intends to deploy not only battery electric commercial vehicles but also specialized methanol-hydrogen-powered refrigerated trucks, municipal engineering vehicles, and urban delivery trucks. The company's ambitious plans extend to developing a localized methanol-hydrogen ecosystem, which includes establishing green methanol production facilities and comprehensive refueling infrastructure, thereby fostering a holistic approach to sustainable commercial mobility.
