India’s commitment to a zero-harm electrical ecosystem took center stage at Electrical Safety Day 2025, organized by the Central Electricity Authority (CEA) and BSES in New Delhi. The event, themed 'Smart Energy, Safe Nation,' underscored the critical need to embed safety into India’s evolving energy landscape, particularly with the rise of Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), Electric Vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure, and rooftop solar installations. Shri Shripad Yesso Naik, Hon’ble Minister of State for Power and New & Renewable Energy, inaugurated the event, stressing the importance of safety protocols as the country transitions to cleaner and smarter energy systems. He was joined by key figures like Shri Pankaj Agarwal, Secretary, Ministry of Power, and Shri Ghanshyam Prasad, Chairperson, CEA, who echoed the call for a proactive safety culture.
The event drew over 300 delegates from utilities, regulatory bodies, and resident welfare associations, alongside a virtual audience exceeding 25,000 views. A highlight was the launch of 'Suraksha Shakti,' an engaging safety mascot, and the Electrical Safety Handbook, a joint CEA-BSES initiative offering practical guidelines for BESS, rooftop solar, and EV charger installations. The handbook aims to mitigate risks like electrical shocks and fires, targeting utilities, consumers, and technicians.
Technical sessions on earthing solutions and a ventriloquist act by Sh. Satyajit Padhye simplified safety concepts for broader public engagement. The celebrations will extend into a week-long campaign, including safety pledges and outreach programs. This collaboration between policymakers, utilities, and the public reinforces India’s vision of a safe, smart energy future.
