This significant expansion, detailed in a recent regulatory filing by NTPC, underscores the company's aggressive push towards bolstering India's renewable energy infrastructure and achieving its ambitious clean energy targets. The new capacity additions are strategically located within the vast Khavda region, a burgeoning hub for utility-scale solar projects.
The commissioned capacity comprises two distinct tranches. Firstly, 32.8 MW has been brought online as part of the larger 300 MW Khavda Solar Energy Project, which falls under NTPC Renewable Energy's 450 MW Hybrid Tranche-V initiative. This specific segment commenced commercial operations on January 30, 2025, following an earlier 142.2 MW addition on June 28, 2024. This phased commissioning strategy allows for efficient integration into the grid and optimized project execution.
Secondly, NGEL initiated commercial operations for 64.7 MW of the expansive 1,255 MW Khavda-I Solar Photovoltaic Project. This project, developed under the Central Public Sector Undertaking (CPSU) Scheme Phase-II Tranche-III, declared its latest segment operational on June 30, 2025. Previous phases of this mega-project, totaling 110.25 MW and 146.7 MW, had already commenced operations on June 6, 2025, and June 28, 2025, respectively. The continuous rollout of capacity from Khavda-I highlights the scale and speed of development in this critical solar zone.
