Rajesh Kumar Mediratta, Managing Director and CEO of the Indian Gas Exchange (IGX), is spearheading the strategic expansion of India’s energy markets into clean fuels, marking a significant pivot towards sustainable energy solutions. With over three decades of experience in India's power and gas sector, Mediratta, a gold medalist in mechanical engineering with an MBA in finance, is a recognized expert and pioneer in developing energy exchanges.

Mediratta's career began with the Central Electricity Authority, contributing to critical power infrastructure reforms at Power Grid Corporation of India. He was a founding member of both the Indian Energy Exchange (IEX), which he initiated in 2007, and the Indian Gas Exchange (IGX), established in 2019. Currently, his primary focus at IGX is driving its strategic expansion into clean fuels, specifically biogas and compressed biogas (CBG). This involves building robust market frameworks for the aggregation, certification, and seamless digital delivery of CBG, aiming to integrate producers and consumers onto a unified platform. These efforts directly align with India's broader national objective of transitioning to sustainable, low-carbon energy solutions.

Mediratta is known for his inclusive leadership, fostering an environment that encourages innovation, collaboration, and a customer-centric approach. His management philosophy combines a clear strategic vision with operational autonomy for his teams, enabling agile execution and long-term value creation. This approach empowers employees through a strong emphasis on continuous learning and professional development.

Under Mediratta’s leadership, IGX has actively engaged with international energy markets, forging key collaborative agreements. Notable partnerships include Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with the Central European Gas Hub, the European Energy Exchange (EEX), and the Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ). These collaborations are designed to enhance knowledge exchange and integrate global best practices into India's evolving energy landscape, including the development of a hydrogen trading market in India.

Looking ahead, Mediratta envisions IGX evolving into a comprehensive marketplace for a diverse range of clean molecules. This includes not only natural gas and liquefied natural gas (LNG) but also emerging clean fuels such as CBG and green hydrogen. His long-term mission is to strengthen India’s clean energy infrastructure by establishing flexible, efficient, and transparent trading systems, thereby advancing investor confidence, market maturity, and national energy security.
