Solaris Launches 59.8 MWp Hybrid Renewable Energy Park in Bulgaria
Key Insights
Bulgaria's Solaris Holding officially launched a 59.8 MWp hybrid PV plant with a 107.3 MWh energy storage system near Vratsa on Friday, June 27, 2025.
The new facility, spanning 37.86 hectares, features 103,116 solar panels and is expected to reduce carbon emissions by 1.03 million tonnes annually.
Project financing was secured from United Bulgarian Bank and Germany’s Varengold Bank, with electricity managed by Electrohold Trade, part of Eurohold Group.
This park adds to Solaris Holding's significant regional portfolio, which includes over 600 MW of renewable capacity and 2,000 MWh of integrated storage systems.
Solaris Holding, a joint venture between Bulgarian-German solar photovoltaic (PV) plant developer Sunotec and the main shareholders of energy and insurance group Eurohold Bulgaria, announced on Friday, June 27, 2025, the successful launch of a new hybrid renewable energy park near the northwestern Bulgarian city of Vratsa. This significant development marks a pivotal step in Bulgaria's renewable energy transition, enhancing grid stability and contributing to national decarbonization efforts.
Located near the village of Selanovtsi, the newly operational facility integrates a 59.8 MWp PV plant with a substantial 107.3 MWh energy storage system. This combined capacity is projected to generate sufficient electricity to power over 22,000 households annually, significantly reducing reliance on fossil fuels. Spanning 37.86 hectares, the park incorporates 103,116 high-efficiency solar panels and is estimated to abate 1.03 million tonnes of carbon emissions each year, according to Solaris Holding's press release.
The project's financing was secured through a consortium comprising United Bulgarian Bank and Germany’s Varengold Bank, underscoring international confidence in Bulgaria's renewable energy market. The generated electricity will be managed and traded by Electrohold Trade, a key subsidiary of the Eurohold Group [BUL:EUBG], ensuring efficient integration into the national grid.
Solaris Holding has established itself as a leading player in the regional renewable energy sector, having delivered over 600 MW of renewable energy capacity across Bulgaria and neighboring countries. Their portfolio notably includes the integration of more than 2,000 MWh of energy storage systems, demonstrating their expertise in hybrid solutions. Sunotec, a partner in Solaris Holding, holds a significant 12% share in Europe’s industrial PV construction market, with a global track record of over 630 solar projects totaling more than 10 GW of combined capacity.
This Vratsa project follows Solaris's successful inauguration in September of a similar hybrid green energy production and storage park in Pernik, which features a 32 MWp PV plant and a 61 MWh energy storage facility. The consistent deployment of such large-scale, grid-supportive renewable assets by Solaris Holding reinforces Bulgaria's commitment to expanding its clean energy footprint and modernizing its energy infrastructure.
