London, UK – Vauxhall has forged an industry-first partnership with leading property portal Zoopla, integrating electric vehicle (EV) charging accessibility into property listings to address a growing concern among UK drivers. Announced on July 31, 2025, this collaboration, a key component of Vauxhall’s "Electric Streets of Britain" campaign, allows prospective homebuyers to filter properties by the presence of a home EV charger and identify the closest public charging points, marking a significant step towards normalizing EV ownership within the housing market.New research commissioned by Vauxhall underscores the market significance of this initiative, revealing that 40% of UK drivers consider proximity to EV charging an influential factor when selecting their next home. This figure escalates dramatically for current EV owners, with 84% stating that a lack of accessible charging would deter them from a specific property. This data highlights a critical gap in the current property search landscape, where only 1.6% of Zoopla listings explicitly mention EV charging, despite one in four new car buyers now opting for electric vehicles, according to the Society of Motor Manufacturers & Traders (SMMT).Zoopla's enhanced platform now enables users to filter search results for properties with existing home EV chargers. Furthermore, leveraging map and location data from Octopus Electroverse, the platform displays the distance to the nearest public charging point for individual listings, mirroring its existing functionality for schools and train stations. Over half (54%) of surveyed respondents expressed a desire for property websites to provide such information, reflecting the long-term commitment of homeowners, who typically reside in a property for 17 years, well beyond the UK's 2030 ban on new petrol and diesel car sales. The partnership extends Vauxhall’s "Electric Streets of Britain" campaign, launched in 2023, which has actively engaged with charging operators like char.gy, Connected Kerb, and SureCharge to accelerate the deployment of on-street charging infrastructure. This is particularly crucial for the 40% of UK households without driveways, for whom public charging access is paramount for EV adoption. The campaign has established a national database, allowing over 12,000 streets nationwide to register their need for on-street residential EV chargers, with this data informing local authority resource allocation.Daniel Copley, Consumer Expert at Zoopla, emphasized the evolving nature of buyer requirements: "We’re proud to be the first property website to offer consumers the ability to find the nearest on-street chargers to a property, and filter properties with home-charging. By improving Zoopla’s search functionality, our aim is that we will empower more confident moving decisions, particularly for current and future EV owners."While ZapMap reported over 82,000 public EV charge points across the UK by June 2025, a 30% year-on-year increase, 30% of these are concentrated in London, underscoring the uneven distribution. Further research by Vauxhall and CENEX, the Low Carbon and Fuel Cells Centre of Excellence, indicates that only 19% of UK households requiring charging access are near a public charger. This disparity reinforces the urgency of providing clear, accessible information and expanding infrastructure nationwide.
