JSW Renew Energy Thirty Seven signed a 12-year Battery Energy Storage Purchase Agreement with Rajasthan Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Ltd for a 250 MW/500 MWh standalone BESS.
The project, developed under a build, own, and operate model, will provide energy storage services at a tariff of ₹2,24,000 per MW per month, supported by viability gap funding.
This agreement increases JSW Energy's committed storage capacity to 29.3 GWh, including pumped hydro, aligning with its 40 GWh target by 2030.
Separately, Energizent Power secured a 25-year PPA with NHPC Ltd for 300 MW of solar-wind hybrid capacity across Rajasthan and Andhra Pradesh.
JSW Renew Energy Thirty Seven Ltd, a step-down subsidiary of JSW Energy, has finalized a Battery Energy Storage Purchase Agreement (BESPA) with Rajasthan Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Ltd (RVUNL) for a 250 MW/500 MWh standalone battery energy storage system (BESS). This strategic move, announced on July 1, 2025, positions JSW Energy at the forefront of India's grid modernization efforts, emphasizing the critical role of energy storage in supporting the nation's ambitious renewable energy targets.
The project, slated for development under a build, own, and operate (BOO) model in Rajasthan, outlines a 12-year agreement wherein RVUNL will procure energy storage services at a tariff of ₹2,24,000 per MW per month. This tariff structure is supported by viability gap funding, a mechanism designed to enhance the commercial viability of such large-scale infrastructure projects for grid integration.
With this latest addition, JSW Energy's total committed energy storage capacity has escalated to 29.3 GWh. This comprehensive portfolio includes 2.9 GWh from battery energy storage systems and a substantial 26.4 GWh from pumped hydro storage, placing the company firmly on track to achieve its stated goal of 40 GWh of energy storage capacity by 2030, as detailed in its recent press release.
In a parallel development, Energizent Power, another subsidiary of JSW Energy, secured a 25-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with NHPC Ltd on June 25. This agreement pertains to 300 MW of solar-wind hybrid capacity under the inter-state transmission system (ISTS). The project, spanning across Rajasthan and Andhra Pradesh, is anticipated to be commissioned within 24 months at a competitive tariff of ₹3.49/kWh.
JSW Energy, a key player within the $23 billion JSW Group, is aggressively expanding its footprint across the renewable energy landscape, complementing its existing operations in steel, cement, and infrastructure. The company is currently executing 12.8 GW of ongoing power projects, aiming for a total generation capacity of 30 GW by the end of the decade. As of its latest disclosures, JSW Energy's total installed capacity stands at 12,499 MW, with renewable energy sources comprising 55 percent of this capacity, including 1,968 MW of solar, 3,482 MW of wind, and 1,391 MW of hydro power. These strategic investments underscore JSW Energy's commitment to driving India's clean energy transition and enhancing grid resilience.
