Unlike many so-called “eco-hybrid” vessels that still incorporate diesel engines, the MODX 70 operates exclusively on electric propulsion. This distinction is critical in an industry increasingly scrutinized for its environmental footprint. The catamaran is equipped with 70 square meters of next-generation NME3 solar panels, capable of generating up to 15 kWp, which contributes approximately 35% of the vessel’s total energy requirements. Complementing this, a robust 250 kWh LFP (Lithium Iron Phosphate) battery bank provides enhanced safety and longevity, ensuring reliable power supply.

Performance specifications highlight the MODX 70’s capabilities. On battery power alone, the vessel boasts a cruising range of 110 nautical miles at a speed of 5 knots. When leveraging its sail power, the autonomy becomes effectively unlimited, with typical sailing speeds ranging from 10 knots in 10 knots of wind to 18 knots in 20 knots of wind. A key innovation is the variable-pitch propeller system, which enables hydrogeneration, regenerating between 3 and 15 kWp depending on sailing speed, and contributing up to 35% of the vessel’s energy mix. The catamaran is powered by four electric motors, two per hull, delivering a combined total output of 40 kW.
