Solar Farms
Large-scale solar power installations
Prime Minister Mark Phillips commissioned a 750kWp solar photovoltaic installation at the Wakenaam Power Plant compound, marking a significant step toward sustainable energy in the region. The solar farm is projected to exceed the current energy demand of the Essequibo River island, providing reliable and clean electricity to residents and businesses. Phillips emphasized the project's role as a catalyst for local development, encouraging residents to leverage the energy for agro-processing and small-scale industries. This initiative aligns with broader efforts to transition to renewable energy and reduce reliance on fossil fuels.
Nouryon has successfully commissioned rooftop solar photovoltaic (PV) systems at its two production facilities on Jurong Island, Singapore, marking its first power purchase agreement (PPA) and onsite solar project in the country. Developed by EDP Renewables APAC (EDP), the 250 kWp solar systems will power Nouryon’s quaternary ammonium compound and alkoxylation production units, significantly reducing Scope 2 emissions. The project aligns with Nouryon’s Carbon Business Strategy, which focuses on reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions through renewable energy adoption, operational excellence, and value chain collaboration. The 14-year PPA with EDP underscores Nouryon’s long-term commitment to sustainability and industrial decarbonization. Senior executives, including Eduardo Nardinelli and Sobers Sethi, emphasized the project’s role in strengthening Nouryon’s regional presence and supporting customer sustainability goals.
Denmark's Energy Agency has extended the operational license of the Samso offshore wind farm by 10 years, ensuring continued clean energy production for 20,000–25,000 homes. This pioneering move aligns with broader efforts to maximize aging wind infrastructure. Meanwhile, Hubject and Tritium have partnered to deploy Plug&Charge technology globally, simplifying EV charging by eliminating the need for apps or RFID cards. In Brazil, 2C Energia launched its first 2.7 MW solar park, part of a 400 MW pipeline, while CGN Brazil Energy commissioned the 165 MW Lagoinha Solar Complex, contributing to Brazil's renewable energy transition and green hydrogen ambitions.
The Ohio Power Siting Board (OPSB) approved Frasier Solar's 120-megawatt solar facility in Knox County, featuring photovoltaic panels on 840 acres with strict environmental and operational conditions.
Sunkind Energy Ltd partners with JA Solar to enhance its 2.4 GW solar cell and 4 GW module manufacturing facilities in India.
